dark chocolate shavings (optional, for extra richness)
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, combine the cocoa powder, red velvet cake mix, and sugar. Mix them well to ensure there are no lumps.
Add a splash of milk (about 1/4 cup) to the dry ingredients, whisking until a smooth paste forms. This helps incorporate the ingredients without clumping.
Gradually stir in the remaining milk while cooking the mixture over medium heat. Keep whisking constantly to ensure even heating and to prevent the chocolate from burning.
Once the hot chocolate is steaming and thoroughly mixed (but not boiling), add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Stir well.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and pour the hot chocolate into mugs.
Top with a generous amount of whipped cream, and garnish with red sprinkles and dark chocolate shavings for an extra touch of indulgence.
Notes
Adjust sugar to taste and feel free to add more toppings.
