In a medium saucepan, combine the whole cranberry sauce, orange juice, and brown sugar.
Set the pot over medium heat and stir the mixture until the sugar has dissolved completely.
Add the ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Stir well to incorporate the spices.
Increase the heat slightly and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Allow it to cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the orange zest for a bright burst of flavor.
Let the cranberry sauce cool to room temperature. As it cools, it will thicken further.
Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl, and if desired, sprinkle chopped walnuts or pecans on top for added texture and flavor.
